CLAIM: Bianca Ojukwu Refers To Nnamdi Kanu’s Judgement As ‘Worrisome’ And ‘Inappropriate’

Umoh Umoh

Former Media Aide to the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters, Ishaq Samaila, claims that the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu, faulted the judgement of Justice James Omotosho; slamming the verdict as ‘worrisome and ‘inappropriate’.

Samaila made the claim on his verified X handle, attaching a collaged picture of President Tinubu, Ojukwu and Nnamdi Kanu with a caption that read:

“The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs has publicly stated that the judgment delivered against Nnamdi Kanu is ‘worrisome’ and ‘inappropriate.’ Bianca Ojukwu added that she and other political leaders from the Southeast will pursue political avenues to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu. This is a minister serving in President Tinubu’s administration a person entrusted with representing Nigeria and safeguarding our national interests yet she is openly questioning a judgment issued by a Nigerian court. What is even more concerning is that this same minister is part of the delegation President Tinubu sent to the United States to address issues affecting Nigeria. How can she fairly defend the country on the international stage when she publicly challenges Nigeria’s judicial decisions?”**”

When this report was published, the post had about 28,300 views and over 360 replies, reposts, quotes, likes and bookmarks. In the comment section, @Nkama090Prince said “Okay she should keep quiet while the Nigerian government pass their selective law? Ishaq you are a dumdass person” while @ekeneoty wrote “She should resign in protest then. I personally think the sentencing has nothing to do with law but Tinubu's dirty politics of bait and divisiveness. The minister is serving in the goverment that is setting tribes against one another.”

VERIFICATION

A Federal High Court in Abuja had convicted Nnamdi Kanu on seven counts of terrorism-related charges on November 20, 2025. Justice James Omotosho sentenced him to life imprisonment on multiple counts.

In response to the court verdict sentencing Kanu to life imprisonment, Ojukwu took to her X page to condemn the conviction, describing the verdict as “not what the people of the South-East anticipated or prayed for.”

There is no credible source quoting her as using the exact words “worrisome” and “inappropriate” to describe the judgment. Rather, she said the judgement was ‘not the outcome we anticipated…. also calling for calm within the south-east region.’

CONCLUSION

The claim that the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs faulted the judgement of Justice James Omotosho, referring to the verdict as ‘worrisome' and ‘inappropriate’ is PARTLY FALSE. Ojukwu truly condemned the verdict. She however never referred to it as ‘worrisome' and ‘inappropriate’, but rather described the verdict as not what the people of the South-East anticipated or prayed for.
