Recent reporting shows that the United States Africa Command, AFRICOM, has drawn up three contingency plans for possible intervention in Nigeria, described as “light,” “medium,” and “heavy” options, and submitted them to the U.S. Pentagon.

The U.S. has publicly stated willingness to increase support to Nigeria’s counterterrorism efforts, including intelligence sharing, possibly logistical support or other assistance, especially after recent threats by U.S. leadership citing religious-freedom concerns.

According to the latest public records, the U.S. plans to remain at the “options” stage: nothing indicates Washington or its military has committed to replacing the Nigerian Army in the field. The designs are contingency plans subject to political/diplomatic approval and significant limitations. The Nigerian government has made clear that any foreign help must respect the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Officials have rejected narratives that Nigeria has failed to act against insurgents, and emphasised that security, including counter-terrorism operations, remains Nigeria’s responsibility.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army continues to lead operations against Boko Haram. For example, in November 2025 troops of the 28 Task Force Brigade, Sector 4 under Operation Hadin Kai, OPHK, foiled a massive pre-dawn assault by Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, and Boko Haram terrorists on Chibok, Borno State.

CONCLUSION

The video content claiming the U.S military will take over from the Nigerian military in the fight against Boko Haram is FALSE. DeepwareAI shows that the video is deepfake. Besides, Nigerian troops have been leading operations in the fight against insurgency in the country.
