VERIFICATION

NV-A did text verification and found out that multiple social media handles posted similar claims

The Adamawa State chapter of the CAN dismissed the circulating reports that its Chairman, Reverend Joel Danjuma, was killed and beheaded, describing the claims as false, baseless, and unfounded. In a statement issued in Yola on Saturday, November 8, CAN emphasised that the rumours were deliberately spread by “agents of mischief” to tarnish the image of government and security agencies and to create confusion amid the already sensitive religious climate in the country.

According to a Daily Post report, the Adamawa State Police Command has denied social media claims that the Chairman of CAN in the state was beheaded by terrorists. In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, described the viral post as false, malicious, and aimed at causing panic and religious tension among residents.

However, there is an earlier documented incident from January 2020, in which Reverend Lawan Andimi, the Adamawa state chairman of CAN was executed by Boko Haram after he was kidnapped on January 3, 2020. The act was widely condemned by the ex-president of CAN, Reverend Samson Ayokunle, and the then Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari.

CONCLUSION

The claim that Fulani jihadist have beheaded the CAN chairman of Adamawa state is MISLEADING. There has been no report of such from the mainstream media and this has been debunked by the Christian body, CAN, as well as the Nigerian police. However, there was an early incident that happened in January 2020 where Reverend Lawan Andimi was executed by Boko Haram.
