VERIFICATION

Early on December 7, 2025, a small group of soldiers calling themselves the Military Committee for Refoundation, CMR, appeared on state television announcing they had deposed the president and dissolved state institutions.

However, armed forces loyal to the government intervened and the government said the coup attempt was “foiled” by midday. Reports say around 13–14 people have been arrested in connection with the mutiny, including active-duty soldiers and at least one ex-military individual. As of the latest reliable reports, the alleged plot leader, Lt. Col. Pascal Tigri, and several of his men remain fugitives.

None of the major credible media reports or official statements mention that all, or even most of the coup-plotting soldiers were killed. Instead, the emphasis is on arrests and fugitive status. The lists of “detained” or “arrested” individuals strongly suggest that many plotters are alive and in custody. The fact that some remain “on the run” means they also are not dead.

CONCLUSION

The claim that all the soldiers involved in the attempted coup in Benin republic have been executed is FALSE. The lists of “detained” or “arrested” individuals strongly suggest that many plotters are alive and in custody while others are on the run.
