CLAIM: APC Members Perform Mock Obituary For Wale Edun After His Sack
A claim circulating online states that members of the ruling All Progressives Party, APC, performed a mock obituary for the former Minister of Finance, Wale Edun after he was relieved of his office, by president Bola Tinubu.
This claim has been shared by several Nigerians, including Rinu Oduola, a young Nigerian advocate best known for her role in the 2020 #EndSARS movement against police brutality. Oduola, also known online as SavvyRinu is popular on X for digital activism and commands a following of over 865,000 followers.
Contributing to the spread of the claim on X, @SavvyRinu shared a 60 seconds video depicting a white coffin, and people taking turns to sign a condolence register with a portrait of Wale Edun. Her caption read “APC members perform mock obituary for Wale Edun. If they can do this amongst themselves, imagine what they will do to you. Kick APC out today.”
When this report was published, the post had over 766,100 views and about 8,700 replies, reposts, quotes, likes and bookmarks.
VERIFICATION
NV-A used reverse Google image search on the image and found out that this claim has been shared on different digital platforms, as seen here, here and here.
A search of keywords: “burial at finance ministry” and “protest at ministry of finance” revealed that the video has been online since December 2025. It was taken when contractors under the aegis of All Indigenous Contractors Association of Nigeria, AICAN, started a non-stop protest at the ministry of finance, over debts being owed by the Federal Government. They accused the federal government of attempting to push them out of business.
During the protest, the contractors laid a coffin at the entrance of the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, as seen in the trending video. The fact-checker compared details of the video from December and the recent one being circulated, and found that they were the same.

From the circulating video

Protest of December 2025
An analysis of keyframes confirmed that the two footages contain the same coffin, cross sign, incense, ground layout and individual signing a book. We can thus conclude that the video is dated 2025 and does not depict APC members signing a condolence register for the recently sacked minister.
CONCLUSION
The claim that members of the ruling All Progressives Party performed a mock obituary for the Wale Edun, is MISLEADING. The video was taken during a December 2025 protest by members of the All Indigenous Contractors Association of Nigeria, who demanded their long-overdue payments from the government.
