Is Burkina Faso’s Textile Factory Producing Military Uniforms?
On April 8, 2026, an X user, @cecild84, claimed that Burkina Faso’s TEXFORCES-BF factory has started local production of military uniforms. The post, which has collage pictures of President of the Transition of Burkina Faso, Ibrahim Traoré, and a textile factory, is captioned: “Burkina Faso has started local production of military uniforms, with the TEXFORCES-BF factory. The goal is clear: 👉 Reduce dependence on foreign imports 👉 Equip the armed forces with “Made in Burkina” products”

In April 2024, Burkina Faso’s transitional government launched an armed forces industrial initiative, including the TEXFORCES-BF factory in Bobo-Dioulasso. The factory is intended to manufacture clothing for the military, paramilitary, and civilian sectors, as part of a broader push for industrialisation and reducing reliance on imports. Officials explicitly stated that the country spends large sums importing uniforms and aims to process cotton and produce such items locally.
The most reliable reports indicate that the factory’s foundation was laid as part of a longer-term project, not necessarily completed or scaled up yet. The Minister of Trade, Serge Gnaniodem PODA, explained in the President’s address that the TEXFORCES-BF offer will help end Burkina Faso’s dependence on foreign suppliers for its troops’ clothing needs. With a construction cost of 15 billion FCFA, the infrastructure will be built on an area of 9 ha and will include buildings for spinning, weaving, product making, an administrative building, a store and an infirmary.
The project is a major investment of 15 billion FCFA designed to process local cotton into uniforms for the defense and security forces.
At the time this report was published, there is no report on OSINT, that the TEXFORCES-BF factory has commenced production
CONCLUSION
The claim that Burkina Faso’s TEXFORCES-BF factory has started local production of military uniforms, is MISLEADING. The factory’s foundation has been laid as part of a longer-term project, but it is not yet operational.
