Is This Senator Smart Adeyemi’s Video On Insecurity Recent?
On May 22, 2026, an X user, @originalprofile, claimed that Senator Smart Adeyemit, the lawmaker representing Kogi West constituency of Kogi State has confronted his colleagues in the Nigerian senate over the rising spate of insecurity. The 2 minutes 22 seconds video, is captioned, ““tinubu should know that it has gotten to a time that we that are supporters of the APC can no longer keep quiet. Our security system has collapsed…every part of this country is threatened. We should shut down the National Assembly if we cannot save this country,…there’s no food, people are in poverty…” The moment APC Senator Smart confronted the senate with the truth and was almost moved to tears.”

VERIFICATION
NV-A subjected still images from the video to reverse Google image search and the result led to a YouTube video posted by TVC News on April 27, 2021. In the video, Senator Smart Adeyemi broke down in tears during plenary as he addressed the Senate over killings and insecurity across the country. A Premium Times news report confirmed that the All Progressives Congress, APC senator who became emotional during the session, said that Nigeria’s security system had “collapsed” and even suggested seeking foreign support to tackle the crisis.
This plenary session was held in April 2021, under the Presidency of late Muhammad Buhari and at that time, Adeyemi was a serving senator representing Kogi West constituency. Adeyemi’s tenure ended in May 2023 and he was not reelected to the position. APC Senator Sunday Steve Karimi is the current representative for Kogi West at the Senate. A closer look at the video also shows that members of the red chamber were seen using face masks, a feature that was mandatory during the coronavirus period in 2020-21.
CONCLUSION
The claim that Senator Adeyemi has challenged the Tinubu-led government and the Nigerian senate over the rising spate of insecurity is MISLEADING. Senator Adeyemi did publicly confront and criticise the Senate but this was in 2021, under the leadership of late President Muhammad Buhari.
